Homework For March 24th Confirmation
Write your own faith statement:
Part of being in a church is affirming the faith statement of the whole church.
This would be the Apostle’s Creed. We’re memorizing the Apostle’s Creed because those are the foundational beliefs to Christianity. Those are the “BIG THINGS” to believe—that Jesus came, was human, died and rose again. That God the Father is the creator of everything and all powerful, that he forgives our sins and that eventually Jesus will come again and we’ll live in heaven with him forever. This is all drawn from things the bible has said
This is so important because if you hear another belief that says “maybe Jesus wasn’t God,” “maybe God isn’t all that powerful,” “Maybe my sins aren’t all the way forgiven” then you can compare them to the Apostle’s Creed and see if they are accurate to what God’s word says.
We’re are also going to come up with our personal faith statement. It’s helpful to really sift through what you believe and write it out. It makes it real. Here are some questions to get you started!
Take some time to write our your beliefs before crafting them into a personal faith statement. The examples below are to give you a couple of ideas on how different they can look.
Example 1:
I believe in God. I believe that He is all-powerful, created everything and continues to sustain everything. I believe that he listens to my prayers, guides me, and is the author of the Bible, God’s Holy word.
I believe that no matter how I feel or what my mood is, God loves me. I believe that through Jesus’ blood on the cross, I am made clean before God—and that isn’t something I can mess up. I believe that Jesus was God come to be with us, to give us an example of a holy life because only God could live a holy and perfect life on earth. I believe his perfect blood was needed as a sacrifice for me, because no matter how good I can make myself on the outside, on the inside I struggle with anger and sin. I believe that when Jesus died he wiped away the guilt of my sin, and when he rose again, he wiped away the power of death, because for those who accept the gift of salvation and forgiveness, our spirits are eternally safe in the hands of Christ.
I believe that the Holy Spirit is in my daily life, that He convicts me, leads me, and guides me towards people to love or work to do for God. I believe that it’s my joy to grow towards being the person God designed me to be, and that I do that through the power of God’s spirit inside of me.
I believe that I am called to be a part of a church, to serve people in need around me, and to grow in knowledge, faith, prayer and love.
Example 2:
I believe God created everything
I believe that since the garden humans have been stepping away from God trying to do life without God choosing disobedience in selfishness to get what they want when they want it.
I believe that since the first disobedience God has been making ways for people to turn back to God, follow him and let him lead them.
I believe God bridged the gap of sin and paid the price of a broken covenant through the perfect sacrifice, the lamb of God, Jesus
I believe not only did Jesus die for our sins but he rose again cementing that he was God and eternal and since we are God's kids we are eternal and will rise with him someday.
I believe our purpose on earth isn't to just get or do what we want but to love the world and bring them to a savior who cares for them deeply!

- What do you believe about God? What does he do? How does he interact with us?
- What do you believe about Jesus? Do you believe that he was a great teacher or God on earth? What do you believe is true about his life? About his death? What was the purpose of the resurrection?
- What do you believe about the Holy Spirit? What is His purpose?
- What do you believe about the Bible? The church?
